Borneo Alase is our brand and the next step in our business. We choose to emphasize both nature and conservation with our business and by involving local people in the production of handicrafts, we are spreading knowledge about biodiversity and the surrounding communities.
Borneo Primate Tour provides both management and tour guides based in Borneo. Borneo Primate Tour is our way to support the efforts to protect the Orangutan and its important habitat, the tropical forests of Borneo.
Our mission is to provide green jobs and opportunities for local people through ecotourism activities that support a sustainable utilization of non-timber forest. It’s important that the local people have economic outlets that prevent the direct exploitation of the forest. We are working with a dream: a living harmony between people and the natural world.
We learned from Fery Candra- a senior guide who taught us early on about tourism and conservation. When we first met, we focused on discussing new ideas and potential solutions. By the end of 2012, we had constructed the beginnings of our group. I then resigned from my prestigious job in a Tropical Forest Research Station and focused completely on Orangutan Applause. There was a difficult three-year period, but we kept the rock rolling. Word of mouth recommendations from our guests were priceless and thanks to our clients who promoted our tour services through verbal, social media, blog/website and travel magazines, we are now a thriving business.
Many thanks to both local and International Non Government Organizations (NGO) that focus on conservation, especially for Orangutans. Working in the forest is an incredible experience. It gives us a chance to learn and work with local communities, grass root NGO’s, local business and regional governments for the better future of the earth.
